TAG Heuer introduces new iterations of its collections with the Monaco Gulf Special Edition, and Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition, and more.

The Legend Is Back

One of the most awaited TAG Heuer watches is back with a new refined version, including for the first time ever, the in-house movement Heuer 02.

Watches & Wonders, Geneva – 30th March 2022: Just in time for Watches & Wonders, the Swiss Luxury Watch Manufacturer releases a new edition of its iconic TAG Heuer Monaco made with the partner Gulf. The co-creation wears the legendary colours and design of the Gulf brand and is equipped with the in-house movement Heuer 02 – a premiere for the Monaco Gulf edition. Eagerly awaited by watches collectors, the new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf is a Special Edition timepiece.

The Monaco Gulf’s story begins with the passion for top-tier of motorsport. The Gulf brand, became iconic in the world of racing thanks to its defining livery of vibrant blue and vivid orange which adorned the teams that it sponsored. In the golden era of racing spanning the 1960s and 1970s their main partner would be JW Automotive Engineering, a name that has left an indelible mark on the history of endurance racing.

JW Automotive Engineering is perhaps most clearly remembered for its involvement in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with overall wins in 1968, 1969 and 1975. In addition, the team field entries in 1970 and 1971 with some of the most celebrated drivers of the era, including the famed Swiss pilot Jo Siffert, aboard the technical tour de force that was the Porsche 917.

At this time, Siffert was a friend of Heuer, one of the first ambassadors as we know them today, and also the driving coach of Steve McQueen for his movie Le Mans. This is how the connection with Gulf, TAG Heuer and Porsche first came life: the Porsche 917 in the signature colours of Gulf and Jo Siffert at the wheel, that would lead to the association with Steve McQueen who drove the same car in the mythical movie, wearing the Monaco on his wrist. When all of these elements are seen together it is clear why this partnership is one of legends, elevating the Monaco even further in its iconic status.

In 2007, in honor of this defining association, TAG Heuer decided to create a Monaco edition using the Gulf colors and since then, each timepiece from this special collection was a great success and highly collectible.

For the 2022 edition, TAG Heuer strikes once again with an even more stunning version of the Monaco Gulf Edition. More refined, with a beautiful design and the in-house Heuer 02 movement that is housed in the fine brushed and polished steel case, the TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition is a true eye-catcher.

Of course, the design continues to be based on the three iconic colors of Gulf but this time in a more contemporary colour combinations: the special dark blue, turquoise, and orange. With these new elements and a little twist, this new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf version becomes all the more unique and features more refined Gulf touches.

Focusing on the watch’s dial, the sleek Gulf touches are mixed with the refined aesthetic of the Monaco. The Gulf accents have also been featured in an elegant way and for the first time, the three colors are present on the minute sub-counters at 3 o’clock, too. Also a premiere in the Monaco Gulf watch editions, the Gulf logo on the dial is totally white.

To emphasize the elegance of the watch, the opaline sunray brushed dial brings to the watch an interesting aesthetic duality. And last but not least, the 12 o’clock index is replaced by the number “60” – polished and rhodium plated – as a nod to the racing number on the Porsche Gulf racing cars.

On the back of the TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition, the TAG Heuer designers worked on a personalised version of the oscillating mass and column wheel with a special engraving coloured to match the Gulf orange pantone.

To complete the sporty but sophisticated look of the watch, the strap is made with of perforated blue calfskin leather and an orange lining. Although the strap has the typical perforation made especially for the Monaco Gulf editions, the holes now have different sizes, a reflection of the design originally fitted to Monaco models in the 1970s, bring a touch of the past to this Special Edition timepiece.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition watch comes with a new packaging featuring a box and a special travel pouch, also using the refreshed Gulf colours. The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition will be available starting from May 2022 and sold worldwide in the TAG Heuer boutiques and on the e-commerce website of the brand.

TAG Heuer and Porsche are opening a new chapter in their joint adventure by creating a bold and decidedly sporty timepiece – the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition

Watches & Wonders, Geneva – 30th March 2022: In February 2021, TAG Heuer and Porsche formed an ambitious partnership never before created between a car manufacturer and a watchmaker. After a highly successful first year of collaboration, the two brands are returning to the spotlight for the second chapter in their partnership with a new co creation: The new TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche, a model with a strong sporty feel that will be proposed as a limited edition.

TAG Heuer and Porsche: a shared history, a shared passion

TAG Heuer and Porsche share a rich history, an independent and powerful mindset, and a dedication to design excellence. For more than 50 years, their paths have constantly been meeting and intertwining both on and off the racetrack. The strong and lasting bond between TAG Heuer and Porsche is built on the foundations of motor racing, and one of the strongest common features is undoubtedly the Carrera itself.

The Carrera Panamericana is a legendary race, reputed to be one of the most dangerous in the world, it inspired both Porsche, which named a model in its honour, and Jack Heuer, who decided to name his new 1963 chronograph accordingly, after hearing about the racing track with its highly evocative name.

The 911 Carrera and the TAG Heuer Carrera watch have since each become legends and are true icons for car and watch enthusiasts around the world.

Against this backdrop, it is only natural that the two partners chose the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph – the ultimate symbol of what these two brands can achieve together – as a way of expressing their rich partnership.

The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition – the ultimate in sportiness

The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition is based on the emblematic TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph with an exceptional performance thanks to its in-house Calibre Heuer 02. A movement manufactured entirely at the TAG Heuer factory in Chevenez, consisting of 168 parts including a column wheel and a vertical clutch. These features allow for an exceptional chronometric performance, such as its impressive power reserve of 80 hours.

In terms of design, the sportiness of the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph is further enhanced by Porsche’s aesthetic appeal. The yellow colour is incorporated in various elements of this creation, which is inspired by Porsche ‘s racing yellow PANTONE, reserved by the manufacturer for the sportiest of its vehicles. It can be seen in the Porsche logo on the bezel, as well as on the lacquer in the crown and in the graphic details present in small touches on the dial and on the second hand. The yellow colour is also present in the luminescence of the Super-LumiNova®, which lights yellow in the dark.

Another key colour in this limited edition is black, which elegantly reinforces the brightness of the yellow with a contrasting effect. To bring a touch of sporty sophistication to this timepiece, TAG Heuer and Porsche designers have used the black colour together with various textures.

The case has been given the highest-quality black treatment possible – diamond-like carbon (DLC), with its extremely elegant deep colour and unfailing resistance. The black dial has a texture inspired by the metallic bodywork of cars with a slightly glittery effect.

Finally, the two black asphalt-effect sub-dials were used on the dial of the previous watch TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Chronograph created in 2021 for the official launch of the partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche.

Another legacy from the 2021 version, the redesigned oscillating mass in homage to the famous Porsche steering wheel is clearly visible through the Sapphire glass case back marked with “Porsche” and “TAG Heuer” with black and yellow colour touches bringing a perfect harmony to the design of the watch.

Finally, the textile inspired leather strap with double stitching inspired by the seat upholstery of Porsche cars and developed for the previous version, returns in an even more spectacular incarnation. For this limited edition, the yellow stitching and lining provides a dramatic contrast with the black leather, and even more strikingly, the leather itself has been treated to produce a technical fabric effect. A technical achievement that lends the strap a stunning visual appearance.

Produced as a limited edition, the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition is engraved with the mention One of 1 500 and comes in a custom-made box in the colours of the edition.

The timepieces will be available as of April 2022 and will primarily be sold via selected specialized watch retailers and at TAG Heuer stores.
