150 Years of IWC Schaffhausen
IWC Schaffhausen thumbs through its archives and presents 29 limited-edition Jubilee watches to mark its 150th anniversary.
In order for a luxury brand to stay modern, it needs to be able to look ahead of time, but for IWC Schaffhausen, which turns 150 this year, that isn’t the only way. To celebrate its greatest milestone to date, the high-end Swiss watchmaker dived head first into its archives to identify the most iconic timepieces it had ever created as a starting point. And the result is an outstanding Jubilee collection comprising a total of 29 limited-edition references from five watch families.
The beauty of the Jubilee collection is that there’s something for everyone. There’s the completely new Tribute to Pallweber which, inspired by the Pallweber pocket watches from 1884, are IWC’s first wristwatches to boast digital hour and minute displays; classic favourites from the Portofino and Da Vinci lines; complex Portugieser models; and even part-sporty, part-elegant numbers from the Pilot’s Watch range.
So what makes an IWC watch stand out as a “150 Years” Edition? Look no further than the dial. Despite the diversity of the timepieces in the Jubilee collection, all 29 references share a unifying design language which translates as enamel-like, hand-lacquered dials in glossy white or blue. But that’s not all. Every ticker in the Jubilee collection also bears the “150 Years” insignia either as a small medallion on the movement plate or rotor, or as an engraving on the case back.
