Rolex Calibre 9001 1

Rolex calibre 9001

Rolex at the forefront of watchmaking technology.

It takes the top spot as one of Rolex’s most complicated movements.

Although the calibre 9001 was introduced in 2012, it still stands as one of the most technically complex movements that Rolex has ever developed. The self-winding calibre 9001 boasts a staggering 14 patents, comprises 380 components, and is engineered to be a unique and highly intelligent engine that offers an additional 24-hour time display and features an annual calendar function – all while guaranteeing Chronometer-certified precision, reliability, and robustness.

Its 24-hour dual-time zone display prioritises legibility and ease-of-use.

A key feature of the calibre 9001 is its dual-time zone feature, displayed via a rotating off-centre disc with a fixed inverted red triangle to indicate the reference time. The movement’s ingenious construction allows the user to adjust both the local and reference times with ease and simplicity.

Taking movement integration to the next level, the calibre 9001 is assimilated with Rolex’s Ring Command system, an interface between the movement, rotatable bezel, and winding crown, which allows the wearer to select and set the timepiece’s functions one by one, easily, quickly, and securely. Additionally, the local time display can be changed quickly and effortlessly without affecting the precision of the traveller’s timekeeping, thanks to the Rolex jumping hour hand. The hour hand can be adjusted forwards and backwards in one-hour increments without affecting the minute and seconds hands, or the reference time.

The calendar feature is smart, robust, and intuitive.

In addition to the famous date display magnified by Rolex’s iconic Cyclops lens, which automatically differentiates between 30- and 31-day months, and requires only one correction a year on 1 March, the calibre 9001 also indicates the month with clarity. This is shown via 12 apertures around the circumference of the dial, with the current month marked in red.

Underneath the deceptively simple display is the Saros system – a complex and innovative patented annual calendar system that sees Rolex adding two additional gear ratios and four gear wheels to its traditional instantaneous date calendar to ensure a peerlessly robust and reliable annual calendar function.

The calibre is bolstered by Rolex’s best innovations.

All of Rolex’s in-house movements are built on the foundations of precision and reliability. The calibre 9001’s mechanical sophistication is anchored by Rolex’s array of proprietary, state-of-the-art components, which also feature in the brand’s latest movements, to help achieve the best chronometric performance and robustness. They include the blue Parachrom hairspring – which is insensitive to magnetic fields – with Rolex overcoil to ensure optimum isochronism in all positions, patented Paraflex shock absorbers, and a Perpetual rotor that bidirectionally self-winds the movement, contributing to approximately 72 hours of power reserve.
