Watches and Wonders 2026: Grand Seiko New Releases - Cortina Watch

Ushio, meaning tide in Japanese, draws inspiration from the waters surrounding the Japanese archipelago, a lasting source of influence in Japan’s art and culture.

The dial captures the quiet movement of the sea through a textured surface and softly shifting gradient.

Two expressions reflect different moments of the ocean. The blue dial evokes the vast expanse of deep waters, where light gradually fades into depth. The green dial reflects the tranquil beauty of coastal shallows, calm, layered, and serene.

9RB1 Spring Drive 'UFA'

The new Caliber 9RB1 introduces the latest evolution of Spring Drive with U.F.A., standing for Ultra Fine Accuracy. Achieving an annual accuracy of ±20 seconds, it represents one of the most precise movement powered by a mainspring.

Hand assembled at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Nagano; the movement combines a traditional mainspring with a quartz oscillator and integrated circuit. Its exceptional accuracy is achieved by vacuum sealing the aged crystal oscillator together with the IC, minimizing the influence of temperature, humidity, static electricity, and light, while precise thermo-compensation ensures long term stability.

The result is exceptional stability and accuracy, expressed through Spring Drive’s signature glide motion. The seconds hand moves in a continuous, silent sweep, reflecting the natural and uninterrupted flow of time.

SBGH376J ‘Sakura-Wakaba’

The SBGH376J captures the fleeting moment at the end of cherry blossom season, when fresh green leaves begin to emerge among the remaining sakura. Known in Japan as Sakura-Wakaba, this transition is expressed through a softly textured green dial that shifts subtly in tone as light moves across its surface. The dial is paired with an 18K yellow gold case, creating a warm and harmonious balance inspired by early spring.

The watch adopts the iconic 62GS case design, first introduced in 1967 as Grand Seiko’s first self-winding model. Its bezel-free construction allows light to reach the dial from multiple angles, enhancing the delicate pattern and highlighting the interplay between the gold case and green dial. Measuring 38mm, the case offers refined proportions with a strong yet elegant presence.

Powered by the Hi-Beat Caliber 9S85, the SBGH376J operates at 36,000 vibrations per hour for enhanced precision and stability. The movement delivers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and can be viewed through the see-through case back, completing a design that brings together seasonal inspiration, mechanical performance, and classic Grand Seiko aesthetics.
