Watches and Wonders 2021: Jaeger-Lecoultre Launches the Ultimate Reverso Watch

It Is Truly Astounding How They Managed To Fit 11 Complications In Something So Small 2

Jaeger-Lecoultre Celebrates The 90th Anniversary With The Most Grandiose Watch In Recent History

This year marks 90 years since the very first Reverso was made, it marks the very first time a watch was created to be able to swivel on its hinges to flip the solid caseback, bringing it to the front. The watch was made for the Polo players of old who wanted to wear their wristwatches while playing but didn’t want to risk scratching the crystal on the front. Nine decades later, the Reverso collection has become an icon for Jaeger-LeCoultre, so it’s no wonder that they would want to celebrate this milestone in a grandiose way.

Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185

There is no other way to describe this watch than to call it an absolute beast. The Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 was imagined as the ultimate Reverso. Over the years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has made Reverso watches with two dials but this is the very first watch in the world that offer four faces. Not only does the front and back of the Reverso offer stunning complications, but they have also even managed to incorporate the back panel of the watch with two dials, each with their unique functions.

The magnificient Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 – It is truly astounding how they managed to fit 11 complications in something so small.

The ultimate Reverso watch demands the ultimate collection of complications and so this watch combines all the fundamental complications of traditional watchmaking including a tourbillon, perpetual calendar, minute repeater and celestial functions. It has a total of 11 complications packed into a stunningly compact form factor, a feat that required 12 patents from Jaeger-LeCoultre.

The complications on the watch itself are powered by the traditional mainspring of the Calibre 185 movement, the double-faced cradle is updated only updated by this movement every day at the stroke of midnight. This required the design of an ingenious system proprietary to Jaeger-LeCoultre.

It gets even crazier. Each of the watches, limited to only 10, will come with an exceptional presentation box. This box can quickly and intuitively set all the calendar and astronomical displays of the watch after a period of being unworn. After you set the number of days since the watch was last worn, and place it into the support frame, the box will adjust it for you, so you don’t ever risk damaging the highly complicated mechanism.

Reverso Tribute Small Seconds

For something more attainable, this watch takes the spirit of the Reverso and distils it into a timeless form fit for modern-day wrists. It is a simple tribute to the stylistic codes of the original watch from 1931 but updates it with today’s sensibilities resulting in a highly desirable watch. The signature design elements for this tribute is the applied indexes rather than numerals, a faceted shape echoing the dauphine hands of the watch and a small seconds indicator running on the lower half of the dial.
