Watches and Wonders 2021: The New And Improved TAG Heuer Aquaracer

The New Tag Heuer Aquaracer Collection Is Given A Host Of Stellar New Updates 2

Say Hello To The New And Improved Aquaracer From TAG Heuer

“The edge is not a limit, it is a moment, a vision, a distance daring to be reached.” This is how TAG Heuer started their presentation for Watches & Wonders 2021 and already you could tell that this year they have something cool on the horizon. And indeed they do. For this year they have decided to focus their efforts on updating one of their most successful collections—the Aquaracer.

Interestingly enough, TAG Heuer’s dive watch was not born from a collaboration with any sort of military outfit like several notable brands were. Not so surprising if you consider that Heuer at the time was fully invested in the motor racing world. Instead, the Aquaracer was born from a combination of the quartz crisis and geopolitical factors that led to them look for new opportunities. They discovered a gap in the market for affordable, high-quality tool watches and that is what the TAG Heuer Aquaracer represents even today.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300

Taking an icon for a brand and further perfecting it is no easy task even for a well-established manufacture like TAG Heuer but somehow they have managed to take the Aquaracer and make an even better version of it. Let’s start with the most recognisable trait of this watch, the 12-sided unidirectional rotating bezel. TAG Heuer started by keeping the iconic form but evolved it further with a ceramic bezel insert. Next, they added fluting on each of the 12 facets so it would be easier to grip. Lastly, they even updated the bezel’s internal tooth profile so it becomes smoother, easier and quieter to set.

Next, they added a magnification cyclops on the crystal for the date. However, they put this on the underside of the glass so that the surface remains smooth to the touch. The sword-shaped hour hand has also been widened for legibility. And lastly, they chose a combination of two different Super-Luminova colours green for the hour hand and hour markers, and blue for the minutes hand, seconds hand and the main indicator on the bezel.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Tribute to Ref. 844

For fans of vintage-inspired design cues, the Aquaracer will also come in a tribute to the original Ref. 844 that started the brand’s tool watch saga back in 1978.

The watch will offer a high-tech grade 5 titanium case paired with elements from the past including a beige coloured Super-Luminova on the hands and hour markers along with the signature 5-minute indicators in red.

Speaking of titanium, there is also one reference of the new Aquaracer that comes fully clad in titanium. This includes the 43 mm case, bezel and even the bracelet. The TAG Heuer watch will be paired with a green dial and ceramic bezel to complete its unique look. All new Aquaracer models will be powered by the Caliber 5 movement.
