Beyond the Ordinary: Five Exceptional Timepieces for this Festive Season - Cortina Watch

A celebration of innovation, creativity and imagination, these bold festive picks, spanning ingenious complications, precious stones and artistic flair, are for the connoisseur who lives beyond convention.

What do you gift someone who already has everything? This festive season, look beyond the predictable with a timepiece that defies convention in its own distinctive way. From an award-winning world timer that finally solves the Daylight Saving Time conundrum to a gem-set mystery complication, unexpected gemstone art dial, refined two-tone ladies’ sports watch and an exclusive twist on an aviation icon – each creation blends bold design with exceptional craftsmanship, turning a meaningful gift into an unforgettable, enduring statement.

BOVET 1822 Récital 30

BOVET 1822 Récital 30

For the seasoned globetrotter, the BOVET 1822 Récital 30 is a rare fusion of haute horlogerie, real-world functionality and contemporary elegance that will earn its place on the wrist long after the holidays are over. Fresh from winning the Men’s Complication Prize at the 24th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in November, this world-timer combines serious horological innovation with a lightweight, contemporary case in Grade 5 titanium that’s made for life on the move.

What makes it special? It resolves an inherent problem that has long plagued traditional world-time watches: the uneven application of Daylight Saving Time (DST) around the globe. Around 70 countries move their clocks forward and back twice a year, while about 120 do not, leaving most mechanical world-timers inaccurate for months at a stretch. The Récital 30’s revolutionary system of 26 miniature roller display – adapted from BOVET’s award-winning Récital 28 from 2024 – instantly adjusts to the four civil-time phases observed throughout the year: Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), American Summer Time (AST), European and American Summer Time (EAS), and European Winter Time (EWT). The watch maintains precise time across 25 time zones all year-round, including New Delhi’s distinctive 30-minute offset, making it the first mechanical watch to truly tackle this complex issue.

With a single press of one pusher, all 24 city rollers advance in unison to reflect the correct time regime, while a second pusher moves the central 24-hour disc forward by one hour with every click. Despite the complex mechanics beneath, making adjustments becomes remarkably intuitive and navigating world time becomes effortless for the wearer.

Aesthetically, the titanium case enhances the drama and wearability of the watch. The ring of city rollers surrounds a day/night indicator in the centre, while a partial exhibition caseback reveals glimpses of the self-winding calibre R30-70-001, whose 373 components are finished with BOVET’s signature finesse. A rubber strap option alongside the leather one shows that this watch is built to travel, adapt and perform wherever the season takes its wearer.

Franck Muller Round Triple Mystery

Franck Muller Round Triple Mystery

For a festive gift that blends enchantment with daring originality, the Franck Muller Round Triple Mystery is in a league of its own. This extraordinary creation highlights the maison’s flair for theatrical mechanics and high jewellery craftsmanship.

Instead of traditional hands, three rotating sapphire discs indicate the hours, minutes and seconds, each tipped with a triangle-cut index in diamond, emerald, ruby or blue sapphire. These coloured gemstones appear to float above a dial hand-set with 237 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 1.96 carats, creating a constantly shifting play of light as the discs perform their slow, perpetual ballet.

The 39mm round case in rose or white gold is offered with a bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds or baguette-cut diamonds for even more architectural sparkle. Beneath the mesmerising display beats the bidirectional automatic calibre MVD 2800-TMY, which offers a 42-hour power reserve and the precision required to drive three independent rotating discs. The watch is accompanied by a hand-sewn alligator strap colour-matched to the gemstone and is finished with a gold buckle set with eight brilliant-cut diamonds for a final touch of opulence.

The Round Triple Mystery turns time into a constantly moving jewel, making it an unforgettable gift for someone who believes horology should always come with a sense of wonder.

H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Small Seconds Concept Pop

H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Small Seconds Concept Pop

For the collector who appreciates truly singular timepieces, H. Moser & Cie.’s Endeavour Small Seconds Concept Pop with a lapis lazuli and lemon chrysoprase dial is a celebration of colour, craftsmanship and pure artistic audacity. Part of Moser’s Pop collection, this limited edition of just 28 pieces transforms natural gemstones into a minimalist canvas with maximum visual and emotional impact.

The dial sees deep blue lapis lazuli – historically associated with wisdom and creativity – contrast beautifully against the fresh, vibrant green of lemon chrysoprase, a stone linked to confidence and clarity. With no logo and no hour markers, the gemstones take centre stage, each one hand-selected for intensity, purity and visual harmony. The result is a dial that feels more like a contemporary art object than a traditional timepiece.

Framed by a sleek 38mm stainless steel case, the watch is powered by the in-house HMC 202 automatic calibre, offering a robust three-day power reserve, bidirectional pawl winding and Moser’s signature Straumann hairspring. A small-seconds display at 6 o’clock adds balance without distracting from the dial’s captivating looks.

Completed with a hand-stitched ostrich leather strap in chic grey, the playful yet poetic timepiece is an unexpected meld of technical finesse and bold design. For the festive season, it’s the kind of gift that marks time and exquisite taste.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm

For the woman seeking a refined yet quietly luxurious gift this festive season, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm in steel and rose gold offers impeccable restraint with just the right touch of radiance. This ultra-wearable 36mm reference preserves all the signature codes of the Tonda PF line – teardrop-shaped lugs, finely knurled bezel and seamlessly integrated bracelet – while offering a sleeker silhouette that gently nudges the model toward dress-watch territory.

The dual-tone construction gives the watch its urban contemporary character. Rose gold accents on the bezel, crown and intermediate bracelet links offer a warm contrast against the cool stainless steel case. The serene White Citrine dial, adorned with Parmigiani’s hallmark hand-guilloché barleycorn pattern, adds quiet sophistication and depth. Diamond hour markers, delta-shaped hands and the gold PF appliqué at 12 o’clock further elevate the minimalistic composition.

Despite its refinement, it remains a true modern sports watch. Measuring 8.6mm thin with 100m water resistance, it’s designed for everyday wear. At the heart of the timepiece beats the in-house PF770 automatic calibre, complete with a 22k gold skeletonised rotor and 60-hour power reserve. Versatile, modern and flawlessly executed, the Tonda PF Automatic 36mm is a modern, festive-worthy gift for someone who wants a watch that’s quietly elegant and serious in substance.
