Breitling revisits one of its most expressive chronograph lines with the Top Time B01 Shadow Rider, a limited edition of 288 pieces released in celebration of the Lunar Year of the Horse. Rooted in the brand’s 1960s archive yet executed with contemporary precision, the watch channels the symbolism of the horse—freedom, speed, and controlled power—into a design that feels both nostalgic and distinctly modern.
The Top Time collection was born during a decade of cultural and creative upheaval. Conceived by Willy Breitling, it drew inspiration from the visceral energy of motorsport and the spirit of a generation unbound by convention. The design balances vintage cues with contemporary clarity. A 38 mm stainless-steel cushion case and subtly domed sapphire crystal echo the proportions of the original Top Time models. On the dial, Breitling’s signature elliptical “dashboard” motif anchors the composition, flanked by two distinctive “squircle” chronograph counters. The small seconds display at 9 o’clock features a stylised shadow rider’s head, captured mid-stride, while red accents on the chronograph seconds hand and 30-minute counter inject a sense of urgency and speed. Between 12 and 2 o’clock, the tachymeter bears the discreet inscription “YEAR OF THE HORSE,” underscoring the watch’s commemorative nature without overpowering the design.
The black-and-white dial is paired with a beige perforated leather racing strap—a subtle nod to vintage driving gloves and the Top Time’s motorsport roots. Turning the watch over reveals a specially engraved caseback marked “ONE OF 288,” along with the shadow rider emblem, reinforcing its status as a collectible limited edition.
