In a cosmic twist worthy of a Greek tragedy – gently coddled in uncertainty with a dash of melodrama – an egg nestled decadently on a gingham tablecloth and stared deeply, unnervingly into the eyes of a chicken and proclaimed:
“Right. Enough suspense. Which of us came first then?”
The chicken, caught off guard and vaguely affronted, flapped her wings in a diva-esque flourish. But at that very moment – somewhere between existential dread and the rising panic of fright or flight – the far horizon lit up with a blinding flash of light. A light so bright that it sent a shudder through every shell and left every feather in a flap.
It was the dawn of the Pioneer Centre Seconds Sunny-Side Up.
This watch didn’t merely run – it made a grand entrance. It paraded, each tick a swagger, each tock a strut, moving with all the pride and pomp of a cockerel who’d not only read Sartre, but now ruled the roost as ‘Your Egg-sistential Highness’:
“Enough of your egg-versus-chicken nonsense!” it crowed. “I’m here to set time straight, not scramble it with philosophical poultry puzzles.”
With one imperious tick-tock, silence fell like a soft soufflé. The universe stopped its perpetual movement to contemplate this radiant sunshine yellow watch, bronzed in its own brilliance, pure and glistening like stiff egg whites whipped into perfect peaks. Helplessly enchanted, time agreed unanimously to revolve only around this new centre of the universe.
The chicken and the egg – stunned, humbled and suddenly knowing the proper pecking order – nodded in most eggs-cellent unison.
For in the face of this watch, there was no first, no last. Only the now. And, with that epiphany, brunch dawned – not just a simple meal, but a celestial summons, a golden sunburst of yolk-infused absurdity.
